Event Description
The draw for the group stages of the Champions League brings Arsenal and Olympiacos together again, with the first meeting in London on 29th September. The two clubs met at the same stage in both the 2011/12 and 2012/13 competitions, with each side winning their respective home ties.

Arsenal

Arsenal are consistent qualifiers to the Champions League, a reward for finishing in the top four of the English Premier League. Originally based in Woolwich, the club played at Highbury until 2006, before moving to their new ground, the Emirates Stadium, with a capacity in excess of 60,000 spectators. Founded in 1886, Arsenal is a club with a rich heritage, and has won 13 league titles as well as being winners of the prestigious F.A Cup on 12 occasions. Europe has proved harder with a single European Cup Winners cup title to their name, though they reached the final of the Champions League in 2006, succumbing 2-1 to Barcelona.

The club has had many top players pull on the Arsenal shirt, one of which, Thierry Henry remains the club's top goalscorer with 228 goals. He was part of the Invincibles squad that won the 2003/04 Premier League title without losing a game under the management of Arsene Wenger. The French manager took over at the club in 1996, and is now the longest serving manager in the English league.

Olympiacos

Similar to Arsenal, Olympiacos have a strong footballing heritage in Greece, where they have been dominant domestically at times. They play their matches in Piraeus at the Karaiskakis Stadium, a venue originally built in 1896 as a velodrome, before football began to be played there in 1920. They have won the Greek domestic league title a record 42 times, as well as the Greek cup a record 27 times. Amid these domestic triumphs, they recorded the double on 17 occasions. Like Arsenal their traditional kit colours are red and white, though typically one with red and white stripes.

Since then they have often knocked on the door to the latter stages of the competition, reaching the last 16 on 7 occasions. Their best performance was in the 1998/99 season when they reached the quarter finals, only missing out on the semi-final after a narrow defeat over two legs to the Italian side Juventus.

Head coach at Olympiacos is 37 year old Marco Silva from Portugal, a right-back in his playing days. He will be looking for the renowned passion of the Olympiacos supporters to hopefully give his side the edge in the home games.
