Event Description
Reigning English Premier League champions, Chelsea, begin their 2015-16 UEFA Champions League campaign with a home tie against the current holders of the Israeli Premier League title, Maccabi Tel Aviv. The two sides were drawn into Champions League Group G, along with FC Porto and Dynamo Kiev.

The Israeli club have reached the group stage for the first time in eleven years and will relish the long journey to Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile Chelsea, winners of the competition in 2011-12, will be hoping to improve upon last season's efforts, which saw them eliminated by Paris St. Germain at the last 16 stage.

Mourinho's Quest For History

chelsea maccabi tel aviv ticketsJose Mourinho's Chelsea side will go into the game as clear favourites to win, despite a difficult start to their domestic campaign, which has included defeats by Manchester City and Crystal Palace in the Premier League, as well as a loss to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield.

Regardless of their current form, the champions of England will be expected to top their group and reach the latter stages, aided by summer acquisitions like Pedro and Radamel Falcao.

Manager Jose Mourinho, for his part, will be hoping for a strong start to the European campaign in order to kick-start The Blues' season. He is also aiming to become the first manager in history to win the UEFA Champions League with three different teams; having previously won it with both Internazionale and FC Porto.

Tel Aviv's Tough Task

Despite going into the match as underdogs, Maccabi Tel Aviv will be hoping to provide Chelsea with a robust challenge and are not to be taken lightly. The Yellows are the most successful club in Israeli football history, having won 22 league titles and have a strong reputation for developing and nurturing young talent.

After winning the Israeli Premier League last season, Tel Aviv reached the group stage of the Champions League by defeating Hibernians, Viktoria Plzen and FC Basel during the qualifying rounds.

Their main threat will be provided by two-time Israeli Footballer of the Year, Eran Zahavi. The club captain was the top scorer in the Israeli Premier League in each of the last two seasons and was also the most prolific goalscorer during this season's Champions League qualification phase, finding the back of the net seven times.
