Event Description
The 2016 UEFA European Championship will be held in France from June 10th to July 10th. For the first time ever, the 2016 European Championship will feature 24 teams, competing in six groups. France qualified automatically as hosts after winning a bid against Italy and Turkey.

The England Vs Wales match is scheduled to take place on Thursday June 16, at the Stade Bollaert Delelis in Lens, France. England are well known to be one of the oldest teams in football. The England Football Club's home football ground is Wembley Stadium, situated in London. Their current manager is Roy Hodgson. Past successes include winning the World Cup in 1966, which was also the same year in which they hosted the finals. Famously they defeated West Germany 4-2 which happened during extra time.

Other successes include reaching the semi finals in 1990. Sadly England have failed to win a UEFA European Football Championship. They came close when they reached the semi finals in 1968 and in 1996 which was the year that they were also hosts.

During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, England lost two of its group matches, which was the first time since the 1950 World Cup when they lost against Spain and the United States. This was also surprisingly the first time that they had not won a match at an international tournament level since 1958. For Euro 2016 England have been placed in Group E and were drawn alongside Switzerland, Estonia, Slovenia, Lithuania, and San Marino. They won against Slovenia with a score of 3-2 allowing them to qualify for Euro 2016 and they are Group E leaders.

The Welsh national Football team are controlled by the Football Association of Wales. Apart from qualifying for Euro 2016, Wales have only qualified for one other major international football tournament, which was in 1958. This was the year that they reached the quarter final of the FIFA World Cup. They also reached the quarter finals of the 1976 UEFA Euro.

When qualifying for 2014 FIFA World Cup they were drawn in Group A alongside Serbia, Croatia, Scotland, Belgium, and Macedonia. For UEFA Euro 2016 they were placed into Group B, along with Belgium, Andorra, Cyprus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Israel. Wales are the group B leaders.

Euro 2016 will take place across various cities in France including; Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille and Paris. The winner of Euro 2016 will automatically be allowed to compete at the 2017 FIFA Cup in Russia.
