Liverpool Football Club and West Bromwich Albion Football Club had met 130 times by the end of the 2014-15 season. There have been 35 draws, 62 wins for Liverpool and 33 wins for West Bromwich Albion. Liverpool have scored 198 goals against West Bromwich Albion, who have scored 141 in matches against Liverpool.
West Brom, as the team are commonly known, were the first team to add 'Albion' to their name. A term for ancient Great Britain, Albion was a district of West Bromwich in 1880 when the club changed their name from West Bromwich Strollers. Liverpool F.C. also changed their name in the late 1800s; until 1892 the club was known as Everton F.C. and Athletic Grounds Ltd. Another, more recent, similarity is that both clubs have been managed by Roy Hodgson, the current England manager. Hodgson was appointed as manager for Liverpool in 2010, however he left the club in January of 2011. He was appointed head coach of West Brom in February that year, replacing Roberto Di Matteo. Hodgson was appointed England manager in April of 2012 but continued to manage West Brom until the end of the 2011-12 season, seeing them finish in tenth place, their highest top flight finish since 1981. West Brom are now managed by Tony Pulis, and Brendan Rodgers is the current manager of Liverpool.
Liverpool are nicknames 'the Reds' due to the all red home strip that they have worn since 1964 when then manager Bill Shankly added red shorts and socks to their red shirt. West Brom is occasionally referred to as 'the Stripes', due to their home kit which has been navy blue and white stripes for most of the clubs history, but are usually referred to as 'West Brom' or 'Albion'. The badges of both clubs feature a bird, the mystical liver bird of Liverpool City is shown on the badge of Liverpool F.C. whereas a throstle, or song thrush, is on West Brom's badge. It is only recently that West Brom have used their club badge on the team strip, it previously featured the municipal coat of arms of West Bromwich town.
