Liverpool FC

liverpool vs manchester city football ticketsLiverpool Football Club (founded in 1892) has long been established as one of the most successful and popular teams in world football, with loyal and passionate fans across the globe. Their iconic stadium, Anfield, is renowned for its great atmosphere and sense of tradition. In their famous all-red strip they dominated English and European football during the 1970s and 1980s winning many titles and cups. This period of unprecedented success began under the management of Bill Shankley and progressed to domination under Bob Paisley.

Nowadays it's the charismatic German, Jurgen Klopp, in charge of 'The Reds' and he has fast become a fan's favourite. The captain is midfielder Jordan Henderson (a current England international along with Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne) who has taken on the difficult task of replacing Steven Gerrard in that pivotal role. In total there are now 15 different nationalities represented in the current Liverpool squad, with several others if you include those out on loan to other clubs.

After missing out on trophies and any European competition last year they are certainly in contention for honours this year, with a strong placing in the league and an interest in both domestic cup competitions. Could this be the year that Liverpool win some silverware again? Their legion of fans certainly hope so.

Manchester City

Manchester City have often been viewed as the city's second team, in the shadow of their illustrious local rivals, Manchester United. But that is no longer the case. In recent years they have become one of the major forces in English football, with many world class players and a succession of highly rated managers. Originally founded in 1880 the 'Sky Blues' have a long and proud history, and some of the most loyal fans in the game.

Since moving to their new home at the Etihad Stadium in 2003 they have risen steadily to become one of the top teams in England, winning the Premier League twice in recent seasons and tasting success in both the major domestic cup competitions. Their current squad is packed full of experienced internationals and boasts genuine world class players, such as Argentina's Sergio Aguero and Belgium's Kevin De Bruyne. Along with the England regulars Raheem Sterling and John Stones, the team are riding high in the league yet again this season.

Only success in Europe's premier club competition has so far eluded them, but with new manager Pep Guardiola at the helm, and healthy financial backing, it can't be too long before that is rectified. Indeed they are currently enjoying success in the group stages of the Champions League and will be hoping to progress to the final for the first time in their history.
