West Ham United Vs Liverpool FC Tickets 2016

The West Ham v Liverpool match will highlight two terrific premier league squads with a history of playing good football. There have been some memorable encounters over the years with lots of goals scored. One of the best games between the teams took place in 2006. In this match, Liverpool won the FA Cup final by beating West Ham in a tense penalty shootout. The statistics for this fixture show that over the years, West Ham have won six and Liverpool have won 16. There have been three draws with an average of two goals.

West Ham United

The club from the East End of London was formed in 1895. Back then, they were called Thames Ironworks FC. Five years later, in 1900, the club reformed and became West Ham United. The reason why the club's nickname is 'The Hammers' comes from the fact that they were previously called Thames Ironworks.

west ham vs liverpool fc ticketsBobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, and Martin Peters are three icons that played for West Ham and England in the 1960s. While the current squad does not have anybody of their calibre, they have potentially one of the most electrifying teams in the premier league.

The club's historical home is Upton Park. In 2016 they moved into an exciting new home in London's Olympic Stadium. So far this season home games in the new stadium have not been as successful as many fans would have liked. A 1-5 humiliation by London rivals Arsenal was one of the lowest points of the 2016 season. Many fans blame the poor results on the lack of atmosphere in the new ground.

In the team's long and illustrious history there has been some degree of success in competitions both home and abroad. In the 1960s 'The Hammers,' won the FA Cup and also the European Cup Winners Cup. This period was possibly the club's finest, with the legendary Bobby Moore captaining England to World Cup Success. Peters and Hurst both scored impressive goals in the victory over Germany in the final.

Liverpool have always been seen as close rivals to West Ham, even though they are not from London. Other fixtures that are of particular interest include games against other London clubs, such as Chelsea, Fulham, Millwall, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool FC

Jurgen Klopp has performed miracles at Liverpool and transformed an average squad into something special. Liverpool have won many trophies over the years but until his arrival had been going through lean times when it came to winning prizes. Klopp's positive energy and astute signings have made 2016 rather special, with some great results against close rivals. On their day, this current batch of players is capable of beating anybody in the world.

Liverpool Football Club was formed in 1892. They have always played at Anfield, though have occasionally looked at building a new stadium. Liverpool FC became a member of the Football League in 1893.

Liverpool are one of the top five most successful clubs in the world. During their long history, they have won both European and domestic honours. These include:

  • The European Cup (5)
  • The EUFA Cup (3)
  • The League Title (18)
  • The FA Cup (7)
  • The League Cup. (8)

If the 1960s saw West Ham at their peak, then for Liverpool it was the 1970s and 1980s. It was during these two decades that Liverpool were managed by Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley. In this productive period, they won seven European and Eleven domestic league titles. Players such as Tommy Smith, Emlyn Hughes, Ian St John, and Mark Hateley are legends that are revered by the fans. Another player of note is, recently retired, club captain Steven Gerard. He is Liverpool's longest serving captain, who led the club in the leaner years between 2003 and 2015.

Liverpool are close rivals with fellow Merseyside club, Everton. There is also a very healthy rivalry with Manchester United and Chelsea.
