Liverpool vs Sunderland Tickets 2016: A Match between Giants

The Liverpool and Sunderland match is here with us and it is definitely going to be a packed stadium. These are two giants that have beat the odds to be where they are today, scooping dozens of trophies on the way to become some of the top respected clubs in the premier league.

Sunderland FC

For Sunderland, their journey began in 1979 on the North East side of Sunderland, at the heart of the Tyne and War metropolis. Sunderland has carried a number of nicknames through the years, but one that stuck the most is The Black Cats. One would say they are a club with the magic to catch their opponent by surprise, having embarrassed Leeds United back in 1973 by a 1-0 victory to scoop their second FA Cup.

sunderland vs liverpool fc ticketsThe Black Cats are one of the few, definitely few, clubs to have won the premier league title consecutively - the years 1892 and 1893, 1895, 1902, 1913 and later in 1936. They have also managed to be runners up for the Football League Cup twice in the years 1985 and 2014.

Currently, Sunderland are occupying the 20th position in the premier league, a fete their fans definitely hope will change when they go head to head with Liverpool. Just earlier in the premier league, The Black Cats beat Hull FC hands down with a 3-0 victory. Defoe was Sunderland's scorer of the day, which doesn't come as a surprise as he was the same weapon The Black Cats used to squash West Ham 3-2 back in 2001.

Liverpool FC

On the other side of the pitch we have Liverpool or The Reds as they have come to be known. Liverpool's story is a bitter sweet one, having suffered two tragedies in the past to become the giants they are today. Nonetheless, they have managed to rewrite their history by becoming one of the top English premier league teams with a number of accolades to their name.

Their track record precedes them, having won the European Cup 5 times, the UEFA Cup 3 times, and the UEFA Super Cup thrice as well. To date they hold over 7 FA cups and 18 league titles making them one of the most popular clubs around. Liverpool came a little later after Sunderland, in 1892, but have worked really hard to rise to prominence as a premier league giant.

This year, Liverpool has been crowned as one of the most valuable clubs in the world, taking position 8 on that list. The club's worth is a staggering $1.55 billion, not forgetting they were one of the highest earning clubs in 2015, grossing an impressive 391 million Euros. Additionally, Liverpool are currently riding high on popularity according to tabloids. They are the most mentioned clubs in media, frequently quoted by sports analysts and even gracing commercial ads.

Liverpool fans have also been a lucky lot, having earned a feature in music videos like Pink Floyd's Fearless. Speaking of songs, The Reds are famed for charging the stadium with their adrenaline field track, the Anfield Rap.

But we cannot say Sunderland doesn't have its fair share of fans. The Black Cats happen to be one of the few clubs with a high home attendance ratio in the Premier League. Sunderland is known to sell out arenas in their away games, notably the 2013-2014 seasons when over 9000 Black Cats fans swarmed the Old Trafford stadium. Sunderland are also big on product promotion, having an in house magazine, Legion of Light, which they give to their fans as a complimentary to buying their tickets.

Sunderland have their own battle songs too, their most current and popular one being 'A Love Supreme' It may not have punchy rap lyrics like Liverpool's anthem, but it sure sets the stage for them as they take on their opponents.

As the great showdown between the Reds and the Black Cats approaches, we can only foresee the stadium that will be levelled with both Liverpool and Sunderland supporters. But let's not forget Sunderland is full of surprises and cunning tricks, and could very well show The Reds the door. Tickets are already selling out, so best pick yours in advance as the day draws near when these two giants finally level it out on the pitch.
